Is Jesus Jehovah/Yahweh?
Let’s begin by saying that Jehovah’s Witnesses recoil at this possibility. They are determined that the concept is not found in Scripture, that this is not true. We believe, aside from the changes made to their New World Translation to make the doctrine more difficult to discern, that they hold to a huge misconception. That is, Jehovah and the Father are fully interchangeable, whereas the historical, biblical position is that Jehovah, Yahweh, the one True God (Deut. 6:4) encompasses the three Persons of the truine Godhead, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
All three Persons are distinct manifestations of the the one God, each with unique roles. The Holy Spirit is Spirit and never seen, just His influence. Jesus was seen throughout the Old Testament as the Angel of the Lord, and in the New Testament He was birthed of a virgin having been conceived by Mary when by the Holy Spirit come upon her. This is His incarnation (made flesh) as the Son of God, the Son of Man. After His death He was given a glorified body (as believers will be one day) and manifested Himself to many before ascending to His Father. His Father is the first Person of the Godhead and is positionally superior as a husband is to a wife. Fully equal, but positionally in the leadership role. This is how Jesus came to pray to His Father while walking on earth as the God-Man.
Therefore, Jehovah and the Father are not fully interchangeable. Remember, “Jehovah” is nowhere to be found in the New Testament Greek or Aramaic. The Watchtower has wrongly–and inconsistently– inserted His name which has helped lead to this confusion.
Do you know Him?
Have you met Him?
Is He your Lord, God and Savior?

Jesus tells us in the book of Revelation that He is “Almighty God.” He is the “First and Last,” the “Alpha and Omega,” the “Beginning and the End,” He is “coming soon,” He is the “Lord God.”
Please read the following scriptures in this order:
- Rev. 1:17, 18 – He says, “Don’t be afraid, I am the First and Last, I am the Living One. I was dead and behold I am alive forever more.” (Who was dead and came back to Life? Jesus. He also says don’t be afraid – I am who? The First and Last.)
- Rev. 2:8 – Says the same thing that Jesus is the First and Last.
- Next turn to Rev. 22:7, 12 & 20 – Jesus tells us “I am coming soon!” So far we learned that Jesus is coming soon and that He is the First and Last.
- Now look at Rev. 22:13. The one who is “coming soon,” who is “the First and Last,” tells us He is also the “Alpha and the Omega” and the “Beginning and the End” – that’s Jesus.
- Journey back to Rev. 1:8 and read the words of “the Alpha and the Omega” – the one who is “coming soon,” “I am the Alpha and the Omega” says the Lord God, “who is and who was, and who is to come, The Almighty.”
- Finally, Yahweh, the Lord of the Old Testament states clearly in Isaiah 44:6 that He is “the Lord Almighty,” Israel’s King and Redeemer. He continues by saying, “I am the First and the Last and apart from Me there is NO GOD.”
We can conclude from all of these scriptures that Jesus is Yahweh, “Our Lord and our God.” (Jn. 20:28) It is extremely important for you to know who Jesus is and to believe in Him (Jn. 3:16; Acts 16:30, 31) and to receive Him as your Savior (Jn. 1:12, 13).
Coming to Jesus…
Coming to Jesus (Mt. 11:28-30; Jn.5:39, 40) and knowing Him personally brings eternal life (Jn. 17:3). When you truly believe, repent, and surrender your life to Him, you receive the Helper, the Holy Spirit (Jn. 7:37-39; Acts 1:8; Jn. 14:15-18). You become “one” with God (Jn. 17:20-23) and the “temple of the living God.” (I Cor. 3:16, 17; 6:19)
Receiving the new birth…
You receive a new birth in the Spirit and become an adopted son of God (Jn. 1:12, 13; Eph. 1:5) – Born again (Jn. 3:3-7; I Pet. 1:3, 4 & 23). God lives in believers (Rom. 8:9-11). The Holy Spirit ministers to our spirit (I Cor. 2:10-16) and there is now no condemnation for those “in Christ Jesus” (Rom. 8:1).
Jesus knows His own sheep and they know Him…
In Jn. 8:24 Jesus said, “If you do not know that I Am, you will die in your sins.” Jesus is our Shepherd and He tells His followers in Jn. 10:14, “I know My sheep and My sheep know Me.” If you believe and possess Jesus, if He lives in you through the Holy Spirit, then you can “know that you have eternal life” (I Jn. 5:11-13). No one can snatch you out of His hand (Jn. 10:28). You are sealed (Eph. 1:13, 14) and your name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life (Dan. 12:1; Lk.10:20).
Alleluia, praise and glory and honor to the one True God!!!
“The name of Jesus is above every name.” –Phil. 2:9
“At the name of Jesus every knee will bow.” –Phil. 2:10
“Salvation is found in on one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which you can get saved.” –Acts 4:12
“If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” –Rom. 10:9
Jesus is the Lord of Glory (I Cor. 2:8). Jesus is the Way, the Truth, the Life (Jn. 14:6). Rev. 5:6-14 tells us “Worthy is the Lamb.”
Let us all fall down and worship Him!
